Gianni Versace is a very well-known designer, providing his expertise in fashion to celebrities and royalty from all around the globe. Born in 1946 in Italy, Gianni Versace became one of the most recognized fashion designers of the 80’s and 90’s eras. Starting out with designer fashion, he soon expanded his empire to furnishings and fragrances. He was very popular and created friendships and bonds with the likes of Princess Diana, Elton John, Madonna and Eric Clapton to name a few. The brand Versace soon became synonymous with class.
Unfortunately, Gianni was murdered outside of his Miami Beach mansion on July 15, 1997. He was only 50 years old, and while in high spirits he decided to go on a morning walk to receive his morning papers (which he usually had an assistant do). The result was him being shot dead right on the steps of his home.
His legacy and business were left to his family members, most notably his sister Donatella Versace. A world renowned fashion expert, he also developed some great fragrances. Here we’ll take a look at some Versace cologne for men.
Versace Cologne for Men
Versace Pour Homme – Launched in 2008, this is the quintessential Versace cologne. A true compliment getter as many ladies find this fragrance straight up sexy. The main notes are lemon and bergamot, but the tonka bean helps settle it down to a nice creamy scented fragrance. Somewhat similar to Allure Homme Sport.Very fresh scent with varying opinions on longevity (which is individual anyways).
Versace Eros – Created by Aurelien Guichard of Givaudan, Versace Eros is inspired by a connection with Greek mythology (Eros is the Greek god of love). Some describe this as sometimes too sweet of a scent for a man, while others say it’s absolutely perfect and smooth. The main notes you can smell are vanilla and mint with a hint of lemon. One quality to this fragrance is that it is has great longevity and a decently heavy sillage. In Donatella Versace’s words “Eros is truly the DNA of the house of Versace!”
Versace Eau Fraiche – This fresh and aquatic fragrance debuted in 2006. Nice Mediterranean vibe to this cologne. The top notes of lemon really stand out and give it a very strong citrusy opening. It calms down after a while when the woody notes take over. Like many aquatic fragrances, longevity suffers a bit. Versace Eau Fraiche works best as a summertime, springtime fragrance.
